25 Minuten Fahrt in die Gegenwart I 2017

Eine 25-minütige Fiakerfahrt durch die Wiener Innenstadt, der Kutscher ist ein Zahnarzt aus Bolivien. Er erzählt den aus Miami kommenden Touristen auf Spanisch über die Geschichte Wiens und zeigt noch sichtbare Spuren der Monarchie, während er an seine Jahre als mobiler Zahnarzt im Amazonasgebiet denkt.

Diese Fahrt bildet das Herzstück einer Ausstellung, die sich mit medialer und kultureller Übersetzung beschäftigt. Nicht eine mit interaktiven Gadgets ausgerüstete Limousine bildet die Folie für „fahrende Geschichten“, sondern ein Fiaker. Dennoch wird ein Thema verhandelt, das sehr viel mit Technologie und ihren Auswirkungen auf die globale Migration zu tun hat.

A 25-minute fiacre drive through Vienna’s inner city. It turns out the coachman is a dentist from Bolivia. He relates in Spanish to the tourists from Miami about the history of Vienna and points out visible traces of the Monarchy, while musing on his years as a peripatetic dentist in the Amazon region. This ride is at the heart of an exhibition about cultural and media-related translation. The “stories on wheels” are not centered on a limousine equipped with interactive gadgets, but on a fiacre. Yet the exhibition addresses a theme that has a great deal to do with technology and its effects on global migration.
